Crystal Caves
Modern-day mining operations exposed the natural wonder by pumping water out of the 30-by-90-foot (10-by-30-meter) cave, which was found in 2000 near the town of Delicias. A sort of south-of-the-border Fortress of Solitude, Mexico's Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals) contains some of the world's largest known natural crystals—translucent beams of gypsum as long as 36 feet (11 meters). Go ask National Geographic and watch the movies. This is really real. Finally.
Adrian Landon Brooks
Houston originated illustrator makes me want to throw my hands into the air, in the rain and just scream... and scream- and maybe cry a little bit... I was introduced to his work through a solo show of his I came upon in SF a few months back. Every so often I get this feeling that breaks me- and Adrian hits it. I own and adore a few of Adrian's darkly felt works and just want to hide them under my bed and stare at them with a flashlight all nite long. Sometimes I do. Adrian.

Neon Light Therapy
In a recent google search trying to understand why neon hues didn't translate from cmyk to rgb as well as I would like them to (i know), I realized that I'm obsessed with neon. I also remembered this time I got light therapy treatment, it looked something like this...anyways! .... and then there's lazer tag, that neon phone my friend Aimee used to have that I was jealous so of. Just face it. You crave it. I do. Party at the lake.
Light it on Fire
Erika Somogyi is everything I want to see. Fire, desolation, love, lust and saturated gorgeous gradients of watercolor and ink work. The hot tub forest fire- are you kidding me?! Only in my dreams... I saw this image in a collaborated book awhile ago and snuck a pic cause I didn't feel like buying the whole book.. which is one of the best ideas for things you just want to remember. I have had this image of her work in my head For Like Ever and finally learned her name in Miami after seeing something that I thought looked familiar... hopefully when I close my eyes tonite it will all just disappear.
Rebecca Bird
Oh, ok. Here we go. So, I really did see some art at Basel in Miami, and I discovered Rebecca Bird, and re-discovered many others that somehow get lost in my mental. I think my heart just stopped. Oh wait, it just started again.. we're good... more explosions please. Thank you.

Vampirella
In 1969 Frank Frazetta started a black and white comic book style magazine entitled Vampirella. She appeared in this magazine format throughout the 1970s. Many of these classic stories were illustrated by the legendary artist Jose Gonzalez and have remained quite popular to the present day. After a brief publishing hiatus, Vampirella returned in 1992 in a new color comic book format and since then her portrait has been re-created by many amazing fantasy artists. She is just so effing hot. I have the complete trading card collection of Vampirilla... I found it in its entirety awhile back in this vintage publication shop.... and its exquisite. Sometimes I feel like a 12 year old comic book geek.

Vortex
In my professional life I spend a lot of time thinking about vortices in fluids; the drag they induce and the noise they create. They are common in every-day fluid flows and yet can be quite beautiful.
In their beauty and the compelling way they seem to represent order springing from chaos, there is a trap: the unschooled or unwary can see them as either mystical or unexplained by science.
They are, of course, neither; they are entirely natural and well understood phenomena.
Technically, a vortex is fluid spinning around a centre (or core) with closed streamlines. There are two bounding cases: free (rotational) and forced (irrotational). In the former tangential velocity varies inversely with the distance from the centre. In the latter the fluid rotates like a solid body.
Shit. Wow.

This is what your face..
Los Angeles-based illustrator Hannah Stouffer finds a great deal of comfort in imagery- it’s an admiration that is often times overwhelming. With an infatuation for icons that reflect historical eras, contrasts in subcultures and macabre elegance, her work is an opulent, intricate mixture of illustration and repetitive embellishment. Her densely-packed pieces consciously recall modern attractions and personal narrative, while she focuses on the outcomes that develop by merging classical imagery and current emotional and social states. Her work creates both literal and abstract compositions and luxurious contrast with a high regard for decoration.
